Meet Kellie Fitzgibbon a JEWELHONEY who owns her own makeup studio based in Dublin, Ireland. Her success as a makeup artist began after various trails of non-related industry jobs, She advises don't take it personally as there is always a solution to challenges and obstacles. Trading pen and paper for brushes and blush, she found her passion by taking a chance!
JEWELHONEY catches up with Kellie to discuss the wisdom to her resilience and brilliance. So let's jump right in, from the lips of one great woman to another.
TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOURSELF?
I had a very unusual start to my career, initially working on ships and then onto exhibitions and finally in the hotel industry doing administration and event management. But I realized I was pretty miserable. While I was always interested in makeup, it wasn't until I randomly won a competition to attend a makeup course that I found out just how much I loved it and thought to myself wait a minute, maybe I can do this as a career. So it turns out the first competition I ever won would change the course of my entire future. With plenty of support and encouragement from my friends and family, I completed further training and started to freelance as a makeup artist. I never really enjoyed school or was very academic but now I love to educate myself on all things beauty and makeup and I am constantly attending training courses. You know what they say choose a job you love and you will never have to work a day in your life.
WHAT EXPERIENCE HAS SHAPED YOU THE MOST INTO WHO YOU ARE TODAY?
I definitely think my career change has played a huge role in shaping me into who I am today. When I worked in office-based jobs I just knew it wasn't for me. Becoming a makeup artist and bringing out my creative side really helped me find joy in the things I do again. I do believe my time in the corporate world has given me some really invaluable skills and experience. I work well on commercial shoots as I know how to communicate with clients and agencies. I also used to be a wedding coordinator so I find that helps reduce stress for brides. I have been told I have a very calming presence which is key to any stressful situation and bride on their big day.
WHAT KNOWLEDGE CAN YOU SHARE FROM THIS EXPERIENCE AND OTHER EXPERIENCES?
Don't worry about what everyone else is doing. It's something I've had to learn the hard way and I am still learning to do. In the age of social media where status updates and humblebrags continuously flood your feed, it's no easy task but one that is absolutely essential to master. Also, don't take it personally, Regardless of the industry you find yourself in, nothing is personal and there is always a solution so don't panic either.
WHO ARE SOME WOMEN AROUND YOU THAT INSPIRE YOU? WHO IS YOUR JEWELHONEY?
As corny as it sounds all women inspire me for all kinds of reasons. In my line of work, I get to meet amazing women from all over the world and from all walks of life. I hear many stories of success and sadness and how they've come out the other side and to me, that's truly inspiring. I love to look at other women walking down the street or in a cafe and see how they've styled their makeup or outfit and try to draw some inspiration from them. There are inspirational women all around me and to me, each one is a JEWELHONEY.
